A. The body of Jesus buried. Matthew 27:58-61
1. In a sheet (sindon, of the rich) cleans, in new sepulchre of Joseph of Arimathea.
2. Sealed by a large stone. 27:60
3. A Roman guard secured the sepulchre. 27:66
4. The body of Jesus rested until the first day of the week.
B. God wanted them to know that the tomb was empty on the third day, because Jesus had risen from the grave.
C. All the work of God before and after, brought its fruit on the basis of the sign of the resurrection of Jesus.
D. We will contemplate the testimony that Matthew offers us as to the day of the glory of Jesus.
I. The Two Mary’s. Matthew 28:1-10
A. There was a great earthquake: The Almighty Lord's supernatural power!
1. An angel of the Lord under the authority of Jesus.
2. Descended from heaven, from the very throne of God.
3. Removed the stone. He sat upon it. He looked like a flash of lightning, dressed in white.
B. The guards trembled with fear.
1. They were witnesses to the glory of the angel. Like dead men, the color drained from their faces and they could not move.
2. Thus was the effect of being in the presence of the power of an angel of the Lord.
3. See Luke 1:12. “And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.”
C. The angel announced that Jesus had risen.
1. “Do not be afraid.” That they should not tremble like the guards.
2. “Come, see the place where he lay.” Jesus is the Lord!
3. Resurrected: "as he said" – 20:18-19; 17:22-23; 16:21, three times Jesus had told them.
4. “Then go quickly and tell his disciples.”
-- “that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”
A. Jesus was among the dead, but he returned to his body and was raised.
B. Walking in a living body, he went to the land where he began his work with them, there they were going to see him.
C. The angel of God, - God Himself - declared it. It was TRUE.
D. “And behold, Jesus met them.”
1. “Greetings!” means, "Rejoice" Philippians 4:4, Matthew 5:12 (the same word in the original language)
2. They hugged his feet, and worshiped him.
3. Jesus repeated the message of his angel.
II. Conspiracy of the Chief Priests with the Elders (the Sanhedrin.)
A. One of the guards notified the Council. Why should they guard an empty grave?
B. They gave a lot of money to the soldiers who said, "His disciples came at night, and stole him, while we were asleep."--How could they testify to what happened when they were asleep?
C. How can you explain the empty tomb in any other way?
1. The disciples lacked the courage and fled when it was time to support the truth and the true Christ. How could they find the courage to support a deception and a dead and false Christ?
2. If the Jews robbed the tomb, why did they not present the body after Pentecost to silence the gospel?
3. How do you explain the courage of the eyewitnesses, the apostles? Acts 4:13, 31.
4. Did they do it to make a fortune? Acts 3:6 "I have no silver or gold."
